A media agency has been charged with breaching the Family Court Act after allegedly illegally reporting details of a case

Newsroom representative Melanie Reid appeared in the Christchurch District Court today before Judge Jane Farish.

The company's been charged with publishing a report that identified people in a Family Court case last November, relating to the reverse uplift of a baby by police and Oranga Tamariki

Charge sheets state Newsroom didn't have leave from the court to do so.

Legal counsel Tim Castle says Newsroom will mount a "strenuous denial" of the charge.
