Jodie Foster says her sons are "pretty insecure" about their own careers

The 61-year-old actress - who just won her first ever Primetime Emmy Award for her role in 'True Detective: Night Country' - has reflected on how her boys Charlie, 26, and Kit, 22, are starting their own journeys in the working world.

She told People magazine: "They're at that age where they're starting their careers and they're pretty insecure about what's gonna happen.

"But every time they get a joy, like I got an 'A' or 'I got this job' or 'I got an audition', my heart just fills up 14 times because I have this memory of a beautiful career that's built on doing meaningful work, and I know that's the recipe for happiness.

"So I'm just thrilled for them, for the future."

Jodie - who shares her boys with ex-wife Cydney Bernard - previously opened up on her parenting style, and the decision to not tell her kids she was an actress when they were younger.

Appearing on 'The View' in January, she said: "I don't know why, I guess I just didn't want them to know me that way.

"I wanted them to know me as their mom and the person who went away to work and stuff. I just didn't want them to be confused about what I did for a living."

At one point, she brought her eldest son on set when she was three years old, and "bought him a little plastic tool belt" to keep him occupied.

She laughed: "And for a really long time, he thought I was a construction worker. He thought I did construction."

And as her children have grown up, they've become less interested in watching her films - while there are others she's happy to them to "never" see.

She added: "They have no interest in watching my movies with me. I think they're going to catch 'True Detective', cause they're really into that.

"And yeah, there's a few films that I would never show them because I would be worried about being teased.

"'Nell', for example, they've never seen because they do tease me often about that, even though they've never seen the movie."
