Wild weather has begun lashing the Coromandel, as it moves southwards

Wild weather has begun lashing the Coromandel, as it moves southwards

More than 15-hundred homes in the Coromandel and Northland have lost power, with multiple roads closed.

Both areas are under a heavy rain warning and strong wind watch.

Auckland also has heavy rain and wind watches, and a heavy rain warning applies to Tairawhiti after 4pm.

Thames - Coromandel Civil Defence Emergency Manager, Brian Carter, says they're expecting up to 100 millimetres of rain.

He says motorists should take care, with extra slippery roads from fresh rain.
