Concerns over a growing trend in New Zealanders travelling abroad for weight loss surgery

Concerns over a growing trend in New Zealanders travelling abroad for weight loss surgery

Tailor Clinics says in recent years, many Kiwis have opted for the procedure in countries like Mexico, Thailand or Turkey as a cheaper alternative to home.

But its worried hidden risks like cheaper costs and lack of follow up care, could negatively impact log-term quality of life.

Surgeon Rowan French, says there's also concerns of how they'll solve those problems when they arise.

He says they're frequently having to treat patients who've had complications from surgeries abroad like leaks, abscesses and inability to eat.
