Hamilton's Central Library will under-go building work from August - to replace its damaged facade

Hamilton's Central Library will under-go building work from August - to replace its damaged facade

The facade of the 1970s Garden Place building is at the end of its life - with years of water damage in difficult-to-access areas.

The new one has been designed in collaboration with mana whenua and symbolises the library's role as a place of knowledge and discovery.

Hamilton City Council says the library will remain open while the project's underway.

It says the replacement will safeguard the library's collection of more than 140 thousand historical archives.
