A collision involving Supercars driver Matt Payne has taken him out of championship contention during the second race of the penultimate event in Melbourne

Payne clashed with fellow finals hopeful Cam Waters with 31 laps to go in the Sandown 500, damaging both vehicles and dashing any hopes of reaching the grand final in Adelaide later this month.

Broc Feeney took the chequered flag to grab one of the four finals spots, alongside Sandown's race one winner Chaz Mostert, Will Brown and Kai Allen.
