Nick Reiner's former attorney insists his client is "not guilty" despite stepping down from his case

Lawyer Alan Jackson had represented Nick, 32, as he faces two charges of first degree murder after the tragic deaths of his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer last month.

Appearing on the Hot Mics podcast, he told Billy Bush: "I believe in it. I believe exactly what I said. What I said is the truth. Under the laws of the state of California, he's not guilty.

"It was important for me to make sure that the public understood that as I had to step away."

After Nick's court hearing on January 7, Jackson claimed: "What we've learned, and you can take this to the bank, is that, pursuant to the law in California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder."

Just hours earlier, he confirmed in court he was stepping down as Nick's attorney, with public defender Kimberley Greene now representing him ahead of his arraignment on February 23.

Nick is yet to enter a plea.

On Tuesday (13.01.26), Jackson also appeared on Sirius XM's Let's Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa podcast, and insisted he couldn't say much about his decision to step down from the case.

He said: "Everybody's got that same looming question, and I am compelled because of legal standards and ethical obligations; there's certain things I simply can't divulge, Kelly, in terms of why there was a change in counsel, why we stepped away and the public defenders office stepped in.

"I will reiterate what I said in the press conference, which is, my team, me personally and my team, remain completely and utterly committed to Nick's best interest. We always will be committed to his best interests.

"I want nothing but the best for him and I want him to get the most robust defence that he possibly can get. And I know he will in the hands of the public defender's office."

Filmmaker Reiner and his wife Michele were both found dead at their Los Angeles home in December, and the Reiner family reiterated their faith in the legal system, shortly after Jackson withdrew from representing Nick.

A spokesperson for the Reiner family said in a statement: "They have the utmost trust in the legal process and will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings."

Ricardo D. Garcia, the Los Angeles County Public Defender, said in a statement that his office "recognises what an unimaginable tragedy this is for the Reiner family and the Los Angeles community".

The statement continued: "Our hearts go out to the Reiner family as they navigate this difficult time. We ask for your patience and compassion as the case moves through the legal process, as these matters are complicated and require careful consideration."

Nick was arrested roughly six hours after his parents were found dead. Nick is facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths.
