The mother of a near full-term stillborn baby says hospital staff caused her irreparable harm

A report by the Health and Disability Commissioner released today says the care provided by staff at Health NZ Waitemata in 2021 - was inadequate.

Open Justice reports it began with a midwife's email address error - meaning the woman missed a critical hospital referral for a benign uterine growth.

Staff later misinterpreted reports, incorrectly plotted the baby's growth - and didn't fully appreciate the importance of reduced fetal movements.

The mother says she did everything to raise concerns - but human errors ultimately led to the baby's death.
