Opener Rhys Mariu's relaxed upon receiving another late call up to captain Canterbury in cricket's Plunket Shield against Northern Districts at Rangiora

Opener Rhys Mariu's relaxed upon receiving another late call up to captain Canterbury in cricket's Plunket Shield against Northern Districts at Rangiora

    The first-class competition starts today.

Usual skipper Henry Nicholls has been called into the New Zealand 50-over squad in place of Daryl Mitchell, as he recovers from a left groin strain.

Mariu scored 240 when he last skippered the side in a 10-wicket win over Central Districts a year ago.

He says that experience bodes well.

ND are 13 for two after Mariu asked the visitors to bat.

Auckland are 29 without loss against Central Districts in Palmerston North.

Otago are 24 without loss after getting sent in by hosts Wellington.
