Owen Cooper admitted it was "mad" to make history when he won a Golden Globe Award for Adolescence

The 16-year-old actor became the youngest person to win the Best Supporting Male Actor - Television accolade at Sunday's (11.01.26) ceremony and reflected on the "incredible journey" he had experienced to make it to the stage at Los Angeles' Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Speaking after beating his co-star Ashley Walters, along with Billy Crudup (The Morning Show), Walton Goggins and Jason Isaacs from The White Lotus

and Tramell Tillman (Severance) to the honour, he said: "Standing here at the Golden Globes. Wow. It does not feel real whatsoever. What an incredible journey me and my family have been put through, we are forever grateful.

What started off as something I thought I might be OK at, I might be awful, I took a risk and went to drama classes, I was the only boy there, it was embarrassing. But I got through it and I'm still very much an apprentice, still learning every day from the people in front of me who inspired me, I wouldn't be here without you guys.

"It's mad, what is going on?"

Owen went on to thank those involved with Adolescence before ending with a rousing message and a nod to his beloved Liverpool FC.

He said: "Bring on 2026. You'll never walk alone."

Later in the evening, Owen's Adolescence co-star Erin Doherty was stunned to win the Best Supporting Female Actor - Television prize ahead of The White Lotus stars Carrie Coon, Parker Posey and Aimee-Lou Wood, Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and Catherine O'Hara (The Studio).

She exclaimed: "I made a promise to my mom that I wouldn't swear on TV, but what the f***?"

Erin went on to thank Owen, co-stars Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters and director Phil Barantini because "each of you lives in every breath in that scene," and dedicated her award to therapists.

She said: "Life can be tough, mental health is everything, so thank you to therapists, and it was an honour to play one."
