Teyana Taylor has likened divorce to "grieving the death of a living being"

The 35-year-old star finalised her divorce from Iman Shumpert in 2024, and even though she found it to be a heart-breaking experience, Teyana and her ex-husband are determined to be good co-parents for their children.

The Hollywood star - who has daughters Junie, 10, and Rue, five, with Iman - told Vanity Fair magazine: "Divorce, to me, is you're grieving the death of a living being.

"I think once children are involved, you understand the importance of really still having to show up for each other. At least for the next 18 years, and being the best coparents that we can be."

Despite this, Teyana insisted that she doesn't "want people to start feeling scared of marriage, because marriage is a beautiful thing".

Teyana actually announced her split from Iman via a social media post back in 2023.

The actress - who has also enjoyed significant success in the music business - wrote on Instagram at the time: "AHT AHT! Not too much on my bestie! In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while. To be 1000 percent clear, 'infidelity' ain't one of the reasons for our departure. We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to coparenting our 2 beautiful children. (sic)"

Teyana insisted that her separation was "peaceful" and the actress reiterated her determination to keep her family life out of the spotlight.

Teyana - who filed for a divorce in January 2023 - said: "Most importantly we are FAMILY and in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married we ain't ever played with or about THAT. We just keep y'all a**** out the group chat lol, which is the reason we've been able to successfully and peacefully separate without all of the outside noise. (sic)"
