Courgette prices are at an all-time high

Stats NZ reveals courgette prices jumped by 74 per cent last month - up to $21.42 per kilo.

It contributed to a vegetable price increase of 7.6 per cent - tomato, cucumber and lettuce costs are also up.

Consumer Prices Manager Sarah Johnson says it's the end of New Zealand's courgette growing season.

She says courgettes from Australia would usually fill the gap, but all imports were stopped in December last year because of a plant virus.
