The airline has tightened its mask policy and will close its lounges and valet parking at the Auckland airport at midday under Alert Level Three.

Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran says the risk of the virus being transmitted through domestic air crew is low.

He says social distancing will be in place at front desks by midday, and will soon be put in place on planes.

Foran says everyone flying out of Auckland will have to wear masks.
