    A cold wintry blast from the Southern Ocean is set to bring snow and ice across parts of the South Island today


    MetService forecaster Paul Nga Manu says there will be significant snow fall down to 300 metres in the Fiordland, Southland and Clutha areas.

    The cold air will spread north and bring heavy snow down to 500 metres in areas in Buller and Western Nelson.

    Paul Nga Manu says the snow is expected to continue in these areas until early Wednesday.
