    The Insurance Council says it will be a while before the full extent of the damage from the South Auckland tornado is known


    Wind swept through the Papatoetoe area flipping vehicles and damaging fences and roofs.

    The Council says people should make sure they are safe before accessing damage to their property.

    Spokesperson Leah McNeil says it's still early days.

    She says insurers will be in contact with those affected.
