An horrific, senseless act of violence

An horrific, senseless act of violence

That's how Christchurch Police have described the murder of a woman walking home from work yesterday evening.

The mum in her 50s was stabbed in a random attack on Cheyenne Street in Sockburn - and died at the scene.

A 37-year-old man found by officers nearby will appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow charged with murder.

The man's brother was also arrested, but has been released.

Canterbury District Commander Superintendent John Price says this will have incredibly impact on the community.

He says no one deserves this - and everyone has the right to go about living in beautiful Aotearoa in peace.
