Race leader Remco Evenepoel and second-placed Primoz Roglic have been injured in a crash during the Criterium du Dauphine  race

Race leader Remco Evenepoel and second-placed Primoz Roglic have been injured in a crash during the Criterium du Dauphine race

The symphony of skidding, mangling of bikes and shortage of ambulances prompted organisers to abandon racing for the day.

The two Tour de France contenders got back to their feet before the stage was neutralised, meaning times don't count toward the overall standings.

The riders were pedalling at up to 70 kilometres per hour downhill on a wet road with about 21 kilometres left on stage five.
