Chynna Phillips and her husband Billy Baldwin are living in separate houses in different cities

The couple - who married in 1995 and have children Jameson, 24, Vance, 22, and 19-year-old Brooke together - have adopted an unconventional approach to their relationship, taking on different homes but still having "date nights", spending time with their kids together and working through their problems in joint therapy sessions, and it is "really working" for the Wilson Phillips singer

Chynna explained in a video shared to YouTube: "Billy and I are [are] sort of in this new kind of arrangement that is actually really working.

"I don't know if it's working for Billster, but I'm really happy with what we're doing and basically, it's totally unstructured ... well, let me explain...

"So, I just really felt like where in the bible does it say that I have to live under the same roof 24-seven with my husband.

"Can you please find me that scripture - no, it doesn't.

"I mean, I have to take care of him, I have to be kind to him, I have to be gentle to him, I have to obey him or submit.

"Anyway, so many people hate that scripture that we have to submit, but that is what it says. It says that we need to submit to our husbands, and so I get all that - and I will submit, but I'll submit when I'm around.

"I said to Billy: 'Look, why don't we just do a little test run to see what it feels like to have me in Santa Barbara, you live in Beverly Hills, and then we flip-flop, and then in between, we have double-dates, and we have date nights together, and we have therapy, and we have dinner with the children, and we go to the beach or the museum.'

"'And then we spend a few days a week in a row together where we have sleepovers and stuff, but not forcing ourselves to be subjected to each other's energy 24-seven.'"

The 56-year-old singer admitted the 'Fair Game' actor was "a little bit reticent about the whole thing" but was happy to try out the new living arrangements.

And later in the video, the 'Hold On' hitmaker called her 61-year-old spouse and during their conversation she stressed that the couple - who announced in February they had endured a temporary six-month separation - were still "madly in love".

She told Billy: "I think that we're onto something. I really do, because we enjoy each other's company. It's so hard to articulate to people that we're madly in love, we really enjoy being around one another, we cherish our marriage, we don't ever want to separate.

"We just need a little time apart because we are sort of an allergy to one another. And it's OK. I'm sure lots of different couples are allergies to each other."

He replied: "The reality is you have the allergy, I have a certain energy that makes you have a- see, your back just tweaked just now.

"You do things that, you know, sort of alter my energy sometimes."
