A new creative arts college in Auckland will teach students a creative art of their choice - alongside the New Zealand curriculum

North West Creative Arts College is one of six charter schools opening in term 1 next year.

It will open in West Auckland.

Three of the schools are in Auckland, two in Christchurch and one in the Far North.

Sherida Penman Walters, sponsor of the creative arts college, says they aim to have academic excellence, alongside creative arts.

She says they'll start with classes of 15 to 20 in Years 7 to 9, then build on another year level each year.
