A large-scale emergency response has sparked south of Christchurch, as a series of grass fires burn

Fire and Emergency was called to multiple blazes along State Highway One near Burnham at 1.30 this afternoon - with a section of of the road now closed.
Four helicopters and eight fire trucks are at the scene, with more to come.
