The new Public Service Commissioner's laid out a number of problems with the sector

The new Public Service Commissioner's laid out a number of problems with the sector

Sir Brian Roche has written to government agency chief executives, telling them there are too many meetings in the public service, and too many layers of management and duplication.

He's calling for improvements in efficiency and responsiveness from agencies.

It comes after thousands of job cuts in the public sector - mainly in response to an ongoing emphasis on cost-savings.

The Commissioner's aiming to set up a small taskforce of agency chief executives, to tackle problems in the public sector.
