More birth control options are on their way

Pharmac's funding a new progestogen-only oral contraceptive pill from next month.

Desogestrel - branded as Cerazette - can be taken within a 12-hour window each day, to help prevent pregnancy.

Other funded progestogen pills have a three-hour window.

Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa Medical Director, Doctor Beth Messenger, says it's a highly effective contraceptive, and can also help with other reproductive health challenges.
