Donald Trump's new tariffs could have some upsides for us here in New Zealand

Donald Trump's new tariffs could have some upsides for us here in New Zealand

Tariffs of at least 10-percent are now being imposed on most goods.

New Zealand exporters will have a competitive advantage over countries facing higher tariffs, and could open up new trade opportunities.

Rabobank Senior Strategist Ben Picton says while the tariffs will push up prices in the US, they could lead to some cheaper prices here, as businesses look for buyers.

He says businesses that can't sell to the US are likely to lower prices, and in turn dump into other markets like New Zealand.
