Mel B is "always sad" just before her birthday

The Spice Girls star will celebrate her milestone 50th birthday on May 29, but hasn't really made any big plans for a party and admitted that on the day before, she always feels down because she "misses" her late father Martin, who died in 2017

She told UsWeekly: "I'm not really a party person. I can celebrate, but I always feel like there's so much pressure for you to be happy on that day. My dad's birthday was the day before mine, and I always spent my birthdays with him. He passed in 2017, so I don't know what's going to happen for my 50th. The day before, I'm always sad. I miss my dad."

The 'I Want You Back' hitmaker will become the fourth member of the Spice Girls to reach the milestone birthday, following on from Geri Halliwell, Victoria Beckham - who reunited with her former bandmates during a major party where they performed their hit single 'Stop' - and Melanie C, with Baby Spice Emma Bunton set to turn 50 in January 2026.

The 'America's Got Talent' judge was then asked if ther is anything she intends to do differently once she reaches her fifties, and explained that she is just trying to get to "know herself more and more" as the years go on and is feeling confident at the onset of her new decade.

She said: "I'm getting to know myself more and more. I've really had to work on that, and I'm going to be working on that for the rest of my life. I'm ever-evolving. I like myself. So 50, even though it's a big thing, I'm like, bring it on."

Meanwhile, Mel has been engaged to hairdresser Rory McPhee since 2022 and as they prepare to tie the knot, she described her significant other as someone who has "so much compassion and understanding" within himself.

She said: "So much compassion and understanding. He's very special. He's a very confident man, and that, to me, is a man. He makes me feel so safe!"
