The Police officer who shot and killed a woman in Christchurch will face a high level of scrutiny

The Police officer who shot and killed a woman in Christchurch will face a high level of scrutiny

Multiple investigations are taking place after 10 armed officers were called to Clyde Road on Wednesday, to deal with a man threatening himself and his partner with a hunting knife.

The man was shot and critically injured - before police fatally shot the woman, when she threatened officers with the knife.

The man is in a critical but stable condition, following surgery.

Former top Police negotiator, Lance Burdett says the officer involved will be treated like any member of the public.

He says it's a criminal interview which is different to being questioned as a witness to a serious incident.

A scene examination is ongoing and a post-mortem is expected to be carried out on the woman who died at the scene.
