Three people and two dogs stranded in a cable car over the Whanganui River have been successfully rescued

Earlier this evening, Central Fire and Emergency shift commander Alison Munn says crews received several phone calls about the incident.

It responded with one crew from Whanganui.

The private cable car stretches across the river roughly between State Highway 4 and Parakino, about 25 kilometres from Whanganui.

Emergency services says everyone involved was on safe and dry land by 8:45 pm.
