Pet owners may be loving their animals to death - leaving a gap in the market for weight-loss drugs

Pet owners may be loving their animals to death - leaving a gap in the market for weight-loss drugs

US-based company Okava's found GLP-1 receptors, like Ozempic, act similarly in cats as they do humans.

It's seeking to develop a long-acting implant for the commercial market.

Veterinarian Cath Watson says pet obesity's been a problem for a while and it's getting worse - but these drugs wouldn't be her first choice.

She says when they're bugging for food, try playing with them.
