MetService is forecasting strong weather to hit the South Island's north-western regions today

They've issued a heavy rain warning for Buller, and the Tasman District ranges, with conditions expected to ease by late-afternoon.

Locals are being told to avoid low-lying areas, and drive carefully due to possible surface-floods, and slips.
