New Wordline data shows payments across all non-food stores reached 51.2-million-dollars - down 12.4 percent on Boxing Day 2024.
The day after Christmas still came in second to Black Friday sales, which last year racked up 55.6-million-dollars.
Worldline NZ Chief Sales Officer Bruce Proffit says the figures show a tougher retail environment, and a notable shift in shopping behaviour.
He says overall in December, spending at Food and Liquor merchants was up 4-percent, while retail merchants saw a 4.4-percent drop.
