Blake Lively believes her hair is a "key part" of her identity

The former Gossip Girl star - who launched her own haircare brand Blake Brown last year - admitted having "good" hair can completely change the way she sees herself and can give her a massive confidence boost.

Speaking on the Beauty of Tomorrow podcast, she explained: "If I have no make-up on, but if my hair feels like me and my hair is good, then I feel the most like myself. For me, hair has been such a key part of my identity, not just professionally but personally."

Blake added that she tries to treat her tresses well and gives them some extra help by avoiding heated tools and using nourishing styling products.

She said: "When I'm not working, I try to give back to my hair as much as possible. I try not to use heat on my hair whenever I can avoid it.

"I'll use styling but I'll mix it with a nourishing. If I use mousse, I'll do equal parts mousse and leave in to create a texture cream or curl cream."

The mom-of-four added of her haircare brand: "This child was born before some of my children. So I don't know if I had four children I still would have done this because it was such an undertaking.

"But this is probably my third child or so. But I just love creating, I love building something from inception to seeing it through - that translates across the different businesses that I'm in and in my personal life."

She has since expanded her brand to include fragrance and revealed the scents are inspired by her love of cooking.

Blake explained: "There's a gourmand sense to all our scents because I love to cook. You smell vanilla, cinnamon and butter, which will make your mouth water a bit."

It comes after the actress recently admitted she believes many people are washing their hair wrong and she'd love to teach them how to use the products properly.

She told People magazine: "People don't use hair masks. They know about them, but they really treat it like a specialty, highly concentrated thing. They think, 'Oh, well it's more concentrated, so if I'm going to use a big handful of conditioner, I'll use a dime size amount of a mask.'

"I want to wash everyone's head for them and say, 'No, use as much mask as you would conditioner' ...

"I wish I could be in people's showers and in their homes because I like that we have products that aren't everything that you see on the shelf because why create a company just to create another company? If they exist out there and someone else is doing well, I have no reason to do it."
