Residents in weather ravaged areas are still being urged to avoid travelling if possible, with slips and flooding still plaguing the upper North Island

A search has resumed for a missing man, swept away by the Mahurangi River north of Warkworth on Wednesday.

Two people have also been confirmed dead after yesterday morning's landslide on Papamoa's Welcome Bay Road.

Auckland, the Coromandel and northern parts of Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Gisborne are under a strong wind watch tomorrow afternoon, with some rain also expected.

Thames-Coromandel Deputy Mayor John Grant says people should keep off beaches and roads if possible.

He says the advice is to not swim, because there's debris and contaminants in the water.
