Channing Tatum has promised to make a cameo appearance when Magic Mike Live comes to New York City

The 45-year-old actor played the title role in the comedy-drama movie franchise and has teased that he will be stripping off once again when the show opens at a custom-built venue near Times Square later this year.

Speaking to People, Channing said: "I won't advertise it, I'll tell you that. It'll just happen. I'm definitely not gonna be like, 'I'm going on tonight, guys! Everybody show up!' I'm just gonna pop up and show out.

"That'll be really rad. I definitely will pop up and show out at some point."

Tatum revealed that performing in Magic Mike Live - which has residencies in Las Vegas and London - is something he has been aiming to do for a long time.

The Roofman star explained: "We have a water routine that we're very, very proud of, and I knew when we created it, I was like, 'There's no version of me not doing this at some point.'

"And I learned it and was gonna do it in Vegas. And I went to go and rehearse it, and then, for reasons I won't get into, it didn't happen. So I'm still waiting to get my chance to go on stage in my own show... because it's a really good routine!"

Channing has created and directed Magic Mike Live and believes that New York City is the perfect venue to stage the show, which is due to open in the Big Apple in October.

He said: "That's what I love about New York. There's so many cool people that are just always in the city. I wanna create a show that we can sort of do a version where if anybody that is a friend or just wants to be a part of the show can came out and do something and be a part of the show at some point, have these little pop-ups."

Tatum explained how there is a "stringent casting process" for Magic Mike Live, with performers selected based on their human qualities.

He said: "Our boys, they're really special.

"We go through a serious and stringent casting process. We interview them and one of the first questions we ask is, 'What is your relationship with your mother?' And it's oddly very important. How they view women, what's their connection to them.

"Every single one of our guys is such a good human first, and they are sort of unicorns as far as dancers and performers."

The Fly Me to the Moon star continued: 'It's not that easy to give a lap dance. It sounds so stupid. But to enter someone's space is awkward. And you either kind of have it, or you don't. And we have found all the men who are good at it."
