Sir Elton John will appear live on TikTok to mark World AIDS Day

The social media giant have teamed up with the Elton John AIDS Foundation to help raise awareness, deepen understanding and strive to achieve the shared goal of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030

As part of the campaign, Elton will appear on a live presented by Elton John AIDS Foundation in Partnership with TikTok on December 1 at 7pm GMT. He will be joined by his husband David Furnish as well as a number of TikTok stars and celebrity guests. Rina Sawayama and Sam Fender will perform whilst award-winning artist Sam Smith is also set to feature on the show.

Sir Elton John said: "I’m excited to recognise World AIDS Day with TikTok and my Foundation this year to celebrate the progress that we’ve made and mark what we can do collectively to end the AIDS epidemic. HIV may seem a disease of the past, especially with COVID-19 in the headlines but it still affects everyone. We all need to care about HIV and end the discrimination around this disease. There’s a great line-up for our TikTok Live to break down the myths around HIV, talk about safe sex, and ensure that young people know how to protect themselves and others."

The collaborative campaign will begin on Wednesday November 25 with an HIV/AIDS Education & Awareness Quiz, which will test the TikTok community on their knowledge of this disease, as well as helping to educate them about prevention and their own sexual health.

Rich Waterworth, General Manager of TikTok UK and Europe, commented: "For decades, Sir Elton John's AIDS Foundation has worked tirelessly to protect the most vulnerable people in the world from the HIV/AIDS epidemic. We want to play our part in helping people understand their sexual health, and to remove the unjust stigma which sadly still exists around HIV/AIDS.

"We're proud to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation by using our platform to amplify their message and educate our community in an authentically TikTok way. We stand with everyone who is living with this disease and know TikTokers will join us in backing this cause."
