A man accused of arson after a fire ripped through a 105-year-old Christchurch mansion will remain in custody

A man accused of arson after a fire ripped through a 105-year-old Christchurch mansion will remain in custody

The 40-year-old man was arrested after firefighters extinguished the fire on Park Terrace, beside Hagley Park, about 1.15am on Sunday.

Judge John Brandts-Giesen has granted interim name suppression today in the Christchurch District Court - so he can advise family members.

The man's been remanded in custody and will reappear in court on February 11.

Property owners Thomas and Laura Mckellow say they've been left devastated by the fire.
