A gas-fitter whose negligence led to the death of a12-year-old, must pay his family 70 thousand dollars

The Otago Daily reports Central Plumbing owner, Michael Cartwright, has been sentenced in the Dunedin District Court today, after earlier pleading guilty.

He and his company were also fined nearly 124 thousand.

Cartwright signed off the installation of a gas hot water unit in a portable bathroom for Justine Walker and her family, despite a warning sign it shouldn't go in bathrooms.

In October, 2018, 12 year old Jesse Samuel died taking a shower.

An autopsy found his blood was 59 percent saturated with carbon monoxide.
