It remains unclear how a number of deer were on the loose in Christchurch's south-west

It remains unclear how a number of deer were on the loose in Christchurch's south-west

At least three of the animals were spotted in Halswell yesterday afternoon, dashing across roads and into private backyards.

Police received multiple reports of deer in the area - while one hit a car on Halswell Road.

The driver was okay, and the vehicle sustained some damage.

It's unknown if the deer are still on the run - the SPCA has been approached for comment.
