The double murder trial for a man accused of killing an Auckland couple in their Ellerslie home two years ago, has been aborted before any witnesses could be called

27-year-old Lok Fung Lorrence Li is accused of murdering Fuk-Fu Joseph Kwok - and his wife, Mei Han Chong, and conspiring to kill a third person.

    The trial started yesterday.

Justice David Johnstone made the decision just after the jury arrived at the High Court in Auckland today.

He says proceeding in the present circumstances means there's some prospect of the trial being unfair to Mr Li.

Li's been ordered to remain in custody until a new trial date is set.
