Jon Stewart is determined to remain as host of The Daily Show

The 62-year-old comedian has presented on the late night satirical programme since 1999 and revealed that he is looking to extend his contract on the show as it is due to expire at the end of the year

Jon said at the New Yorker Festival: "We're working on staying. Look, the other thing to remember is it's not as clear cut as all that. They've already done things that I'm upset about. But then if I had integrity, maybe I would stand up and go, 'I'm out.' Or maybe the integrity thing to do would be to stay in it and keep fighting in the foxhole."

Stewart originally hosted The Daily Show from 1999 to 2015 before returning on a part-time basis last year and pulled no punches in his criticism of US President Donald Trump after the politician suggested he could run for a third term in the White House.

The star said on Monday's (27.10.25) episode: "He's the kind of guy who's like, 'I respect Americans too much to play games. If I'm gonna run again, I'm gonna rip off the Constituiton's head and s*** down its neck.'

"And truth is, indications are very clear he's going to do it because you don't move into a house, knock down a wing and a build a 90,000 square foot ballroom for the next guy.

"He's in it for the long haul."

Stewart also joked about how ungrateful the American population are towards Trump.

The comic quipped: "He just wants to save his country, and all he asks for in return is a little bit of total, unquestioning fealty and a few billion dollars in influence money and new forms of currency. This poor b******."

Jon also hit out at the President's treatment of reporters who ask him confrontational questions.

He said: "Our constant complaining is turning him into the worst version of himself. He doesn't want to be this person. Everyone knows a healthy relationship is a relationship where one person gets to do whatever they want, whenever they want, even if some of that s***'s illegal, and the other person has to eat it, just eat it."
