Jonathan Van Ness learned to "regulate [his] emotions in really difficult circumstances" while filming Queer Eye

The 38-year-old star has served as the grooming expert on the Netflix series since 2018, and Jonathan has revealed what he's learned from making the hit TV show.

Speaking to Us Weekly, Jonathan explained that he had to navigate "some of the most painful experiences of [his] life" while making Queer Eye, such as deaths in the family, and marrying husband Mark Peacock in 2020.

The tenth series of Queer Eye was filmed in Washington D.C., and Jonathan found shooting the show in the US capital in the current climate to be a "surreal" experience.

He explained: "We finished filming in DC for season 10 in August. It'll come out sometime next year.

"It was really such a great experience. Wrapping everything up in Washington D.C. was, visually, very pretty. It's a really pretty city, but also very surreal. We started filming the show [during] [President Donald] Trump's first administration in Atlanta in 2017 ... It was interesting to be back there in this atmosphere."

Meanwhile, Jonathan previously admitted to feeling overwhelmed by the success of Queer Eye.

Speaking to NME back in 2018, Jonathan shared: "It has been pretty crazy! I'm used to being a little bit in the public eye, but this is so much more than what I've been used to and the response has been so much bigger than anything I've ever done. The outpouring of love has been so overwhelming."

Jonathan also revealed that he developed a close bond with his Queer Eye co-stars.

He said: "They're like my best friends.

"I FaceTime Antoni and Tan multiple times a day because we don't live in Los Angeles and I usually have Instagram questions, or like "What should I do?" questions. We've spent every day together this summer, so we all just became really close. And then Bobby and Karamo live in Los Angeles, so I usually see them weekly. We're all usually talking on Instagram one way or another. They became my people."
