Bodybuilder-turned-actress Jayne Trcka has been found dead at her home in California

The 62 year old - who appeared in 2000 horror comedy Scary Movie - was discovered unresponsive in the kitchen of her property in San Diego by a friend who had gone over to check on her after Trcka failed to answer a number of phone calls over several days, according to TMZ.com.

The publication reports emergency services were called and paramedics dec lared Trcka dead at the scene. The tragedy occurred on December 12, according to Trcka's son.

He is said to have told the website he was unaware of any underlying medical conditions which could have led to his mother's death.

Trcka's passing is being investigated by the San Diego Medical Examiner and the official cause of death remains pending.

A spokesperson for the San Diego Medical Examiner told the US Sun: "There was trauma to the body, but we wouldn't be able to indicate cause of death at this time."

Trcka - who also wrestled under the name Kasie Cavanaugh - rose to fame as a professional bodybuilder in the 1980s and appeared in fitness magazines including Flex, MuscleMag International, and Women's Physique World.

She landed her first acting role in 2000 when she was hired to play gym teacher Miss Mann in Scary Movie alongside stars including Anna Faris, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Regina Hall, and Carmen Electra.

Trcka went on to appear on The Drew Carey Show and Whose Line is it Anyway? as well as landing parts in Lady Gaga and Beyonce's Telephone video and in 2016 horror movie The Bad Batch with Suki Waterhouse and Keanu Reeves.

Reports suggest Trcka later began working as a personal trainer and realtor in San Diego.

On her official website, Trcka described herself as an actress and fitness model "available for TV, film, commercial, print" adding she was "the actress with the unique physique".

Trcka previously told Mass Muscle Magazine she discovered her love of sport as a child after sparring with her brother.

She said: "I remember standing in my underwear in our living room, having boxing and wrestling matches with my brother. I used to chase the neighbourhood boys with angleworms; I loved to have the upper hand on the boys."
