    The Whakatane, Opotiki and Gisborne districts are the latest to be hit by severe thunderstorms


    A line of storms have been moving over the upper and central North Island since last night - causing heavy to torrential rain.

    Some areas have seen surface flooding and flash flooding.

    Some have also experienced periods of frequent lightning and thunder.

    A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for Gisborne and Hawke's Bay.
