Fortune Feimster has married her partner of five years

The 40-year-old comedian - who is best known for playing Colette in 'The Mindy Project' - and her significant other, Jacquelyn Smith, wed in an intimate ceremony in Malibu, California, on Friday (23.10.20) surrounded by a few friends

Fortune told People magazine: "I was excited. We've been together for five-and-a-half years. If you don't know who you're marrying after five-and-a-half years, then you're in trouble. So I knew it felt good, it felt right."

They rented a house for the occasion and tied the knot on the patio, and their friends and family were able to watch the events unfold via Zoom.

The couple's pet pooch Biggie was the ring bearer for their big day, and the pair only gave their pals who attended a week's notice.

She said: "It was something small. We only had a couple of good friends there. We all had Covid tests. We purposefully kept it small for the reasons of it being during a pandemic.

"We just asked a couple of our close friends we knew had been taking the quarantine and pandemic seriously.

"We only gave them a week's notice. We said, 'Would you guys be willing to take Covid tests and keep hunkering down leading up to the day?' And they were like, 'Absolutely.'"

The 'Last Comic Standing' star felt motivated to marry quicker over concerns about the same-sex marriage laws in the US potentially being "overturned".

She said: "I'm not going to lie, there were some nerves about the Supreme Court.

"After Ruth Bader Ginsburg died, all these people started talking about gay marriage again. On the first day of their session, two of the justices brought up gay marriage.

"I think I had posted something on Instagram, something like, 'Oh man, this is nerve-racking as a gay person.' Especially because we were planning to get married. All these people were like, 'Go get married now.' "

Fortune and kindergarten teacher Jacquelyn, also 40, are keen to celebrate their nuptials with a bigger bash next year when coronavirus restrictions ease.
