A Christchurch daycare's expressed deep regret after five children and two adults suffered chemical burns when a hazardous substance was poured on a slip and slide

Emergency crews were called to Kindercare on Woolston's Ferry Rd just after 1pm yesterday.

Seven people were taken to hospital - five preschool-aged children and two staff.

Kindercare says it's likely chemical detergent normally used in the centre's kitchen steriliser unit was mistaken for dishwasher liquid - and the centre has apologised over the error.

It says shocked at what happened and is taking the incident seriously - launching a full investigation.
