    MetService has released stats showing weather extremes from the past 24 hours


    The highest wind gusts as of just over an hour ago were on Wairarapa's eastern coast: 157 kph at Castlepoint, and 155 kph at Cape Turnagain.

    Napier and Hastings have been the hottest spots, edging just over 36 degrees.

    Kaikoura was just over 34, Gisborne almost 34, and Christchurch almost 32.
