Areas surrounding the base of Mount Maunganui remain off-limits, and geotechnical experts warn the risk of more slips is still high

Areas surrounding the base of Mount Maunganui remain off-limits, and geotechnical experts warn the risk of more slips is still high

Six people died when a landslide swamped the campsite after torrential downpours last month.

The Pilot Bay boat ramp is closed for the foreseeable future, and the Lifeguard Service building has been red-stickered.

Tauranga City Council recovery manager, Paula Naude says they'll reassess closures, after the next heavy rain.

She says the mount has 40 landslips - including 29 on the base track - so Mauao also remains closed.
