Nurses have voted "overwhelmingly" in favour of striking next month

Nurses have voted "overwhelmingly" in favour of striking next month

The Nurses Organisation will issue strike notices to DHBs for an eight hour strike on June 9.

Lead Advocate David Wait says members are angry and frustrated at the DHB's first offer last month - and furious about the Government's wage restraint announcement.

He says they expect to have marches around the country on the day of the strike.

Wait says there'll be quite a spectacle with members walking out of hospitals - because the 11am start is halfway through most nurses' shifts.

Mediation is scheduled for next week - when solutions to avert the strike will be sought.
