A surprise withdrawal from the next America's Cup

A surprise withdrawal from the next America's Cup

The 38th edition will be without former Auld Mug holders Alinghi Red Bull Racing, with the Swiss syndicate confirming they would not be entering and had begun an "orderly wind-down" of the team.

In a statement, Alinghi says they couldn't reach an agreement with the Defender of the America's Cup - that being Team New Zealand - over the future of the event.

Alinghi competed at last year's regatta in Barcelona, where they were eliminated in the semifinals of the Louis Vuitton Cup challenger series.
