The Kiwi's finished 11th after Racing Bulls opted for him not to pit behind a late safety car, leaving him vulnerable to an attack from Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso on faster tyres.
Lawson says they missed the safety car line by about half a second.
He's been asked if there's positives he can take from the performance.
McLaren's Oscar Piastri's taken his fifth win of the season with teammate Lando Norris placing second and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc third.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen's been relegated from fourth to 10th after copping a ten second penalty for a late incident with Mercedes' George Russell.
