Olivia Munn found comfort in Catherine, Princess of Wales' recent comments about her cancer journey

The 45-year-old actress previously underwent a double mastectomy, after being diagnosed with breast cancer, and Olivia has now explained how she found comfort in the princess' recent remarks.

The 43-year-old royal - who previously underwent chemotherapy for an undisclosed type of cancer - recently said: "You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment, treatments done, then it's like, 'I can crack on, get back to normal,' but actually the phase afterwards is really, really difficult."

Olivia admits that she really related to the princess' words.

The Hollywood star - who is married to comedian John Mulaney - said on the Today show: "It was so great to hear her say it because I wasn't able to put the words in myself, and I've been talking so much about breast cancer.

"The first part is hard, but a lot of people don't talk about how hard the second part is. I actually didn't know how to articulate it, and then I heard her say recently that, 'Oh, it's hard, but this other part is really tough. The part after the surgeries and stuff like that.'

"It really made me feel so comforted that someone in her position was talking about it, because I needed to hear that. I needed someone to articulate that."

Meanwhile, the princess previously explained that she needed to find her "new normal" after battling cancer.

She said during a hospital visit: "It's life-changing for anyone, through first diagnosis or post treatment and things like that, it is a life-changing experience both for the patient but also for the families as well.

"And actually it sometimes goes unrecognised, you don't necessarily, particularly when it's the first time, appreciate how much impact it is going to have.

"You have to find your new normal and that takes time ... and it's a rollercoaster it's not one smooth plane, which you expect it to be. But the reality is it's not, you go through hard times."
