Ron Howard thinks AI can "help filmmakers get more of what's in their mind's eye onto screens"

The 71-year-old director is one of the most successful filmmakers in Hollywood, and Ron believes that AI will play an important role in the long-term future of the movie industry.

He told Variety: "It's going to help filmmakers get more of what's in their mind's eye onto screens in very efficient ways.

"It'll be helpful in terms of visual effects and be its own kind of revolution, just as digital effects were for cinema. The important thing for us as a society is to preserve creative populations' ability to make a living. That's going to require thought and care, and the copyright issues are going to have to be legislated."

Asked whether he currently uses AI, Ron replied: "Questions pop into my mind, and I know the answers AI gives aren't 100 percent reliable, but it's like you've got a couple of bright people wandering around with you. "

Ron also insists that he doesn't have any concerns about film fans watching his projects on a phone, rather than on the big screen.

He said: "I watch films on my phone. Maybe don't say that - the ghost of David Lynch will come back to haunt me. "

Meanwhile, Ron previously revealed that he loves movies that help him to see "the world a little differently".

The acclaimed filmmaker told CBS News: "Sometimes there's something very comforting about a film unfolding more or less as you expect it to. And a lot of people, you know, that's their litmus test. That's really, really what they want.

"Well, for me, as an audience member, I want to have a fulfilling experience. I don't want to be frustrated too much. But I love it when it feels like it's something fresh. When I feel I'm seeing the world a little differently. I'm being entertained in a little different way. "
